Body of Knowledge : Domain Types

The Operating Model provides following Domain Types, to be extended with your own ones if necessary.

The tool functionality on managing Domains is explained in the DGC User Guide in the section on Domains.

Glossary

In general, a glossary, also known as a vocabulary, is an alphabetical list of terms in a particular domain of knowledge with the definitions (also called glosses) for those terms.

In Collibra Data Governance Center, a "Glossary" is a special Domain Type in which you collect and manage Assets of the following Asset Types:

1. Business Term;
2. Acronym;
3. KPI

The "Glossary" Domain Type is typically part of the Business Glossary Case.

Business Asset Domain 

A "Business Asset Domain" is a special Domain Type containing Assets of the following Asset Types:

1. 1. Process
   2. Metric
   3. Report
   4. Dimension

The "Business Asset Domain" Domain Type is typically part of the Data Quality Case.

Codelist 

A "Codelist" Domain is a special Domain Type containing Assets of the following Asset Types:

1. 1. Code Value;
   2. Code Set.

The "Codelist" Domain Type supports the Reference Data Management Case.

Data Asset Domain 

A "Data Asset Domain" Domain is a special Domain Type containing Assets of the following Asset Types:

1. Data Structure, with more specific types:
   • DataModel
   • DataEntity
   • DatabaseTable
2. Data Element, with more specific types:
   • DataAttribute
   • TableColumn

 The "Data Asset Domain" Domain Type supports the Data Dictionary Case.

Mapping Domain 

A "Mapping Domain" Domain is a special Domain Type containing Assets of the following Asset Types:

1. Crosswalk, used in a Reference Data Management Case;
2. MappingSpecification, for use in a Data Dictionary Case.

Technology Asset Domain 

A "Technology Asset Domain" Domain is a special Domain Type containing Assets of the following Asset Types: 

1. System
2. Database

A "Governance Asset Domain" Domain is a special Domain Type containing Assets of the following Asset Types: 

1. Policy
2. Rule with more specific type:
   1. Business Rule
   2. Data Quality Rule
